Zimbabwe Announces Squads for ODI and T20I Series Against Sri Lanka

Zimbabwe Cricket has unveiled its formidable squads for the upcoming ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka, set to commence on January 6, 2024. The selection brings back Craig Ervine, who missed the home series against Ireland in December due to injury, to captain the ODI side. Meanwhile, Sikandar Raza will lead the T20I squad.A notable addition to the ODI squad is the uncapped off-spinner Tapiwa Mufudza, recognized for his stellar performances in domestic cricket. Fast bowler Faraz Akram, having already made his mark in T20Is, earns a call-up to the ODI squad. Takudzwanashe Kaitano, Tinashe Kamunhukamwe, Milton Shumba, and Tony Munyonga, who featured in the squad against Ireland, continue their journey to Sri Lanka for the ODIs.In a strategic reshuffle for the T20Is, Brian Bennett, Ainsley Ndlovu, and Carl Mumba replace Kaitano, Mufudza, and Akram. However, the disappointment for Zimbabwe stems from the absence of veteran Sean Williams, who failed to recover from an injury and will miss both the ODI and T20I series. The much-anticipated tour will kick off with three ODIs scheduled for January 6, 8, and 11, followed by an equally thrilling T20I series from January 14 to 18. All matches will unfold at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.
